Run the Experiments (25) – Out of Favour
(December 20th, 2017) Here's a new episode of Lab Times' serialised crime story.
“Marcus? I'm talking to you!” Prof Bernard's voice was demanding and impatient.
“Yes! S'cuse me, Sir, I was just looking at some data.” With a trembling voice, Marcus slowly turned around to face Prof Bernard.
“Marcus! I’m waiting...”
“Well, yes,” Marcus began to stutter, searching for words and a convincing lie, “I… erm… met Charlotte but... but I couldn't find the stick or her data anywhere. I was in her office, even her home, but there was nothing. She’s hidden it very well, Sir”.
“What? You... you dare to come here with... nothing?” Prof Bernard's red face bore the first signs of imminent outrage. Marcus’ reflexes forced him to flinch and duck.
“The insolence!” Prof Bernard's furious yells echoed throughout the entire institute. “Was it too much to ask you to go to Spain and do me a simple favour? I knew you were too stupid - even for that.”
Marcus remained silent, enduring the Prof’s aggressive verbal attack.
“Oh forget it; I'll just have to do it myself!” Prof Bernard stomped off towards the lab door. But before disappearing into his office, he turned around once more. “Oh, and by the way,” he stared Marcus straight in the eye, “Pack your things and get out of here. You're fired!”
