Run the Experiments (19) – A Sorry Sight

(December 12th, 2017) Here's a new episode of Lab Times' serialised crime story.

“Cheerio, Marcus!” Charlotte called after Marcus. “Don't be a stranger!”

“Nope,” Marcus' answer was literally monosyllabic. Without even pausing to put his jacket on properly, he hastened out into the corridor, took the stairs two at a time and was gone.

“Oh, those stressed-out scientists. Always in a rush,” Charlotte rolled her eyes and closed the door behind her.

Back in her apartment, Charlotte noticed that the coffee cups were still on the table. Strange, he hardly even touched his. What the heck! Charlotte mused and poured the still warm brew down the kitchen sink.

Now, with Marcus having left so early, she had more time to prepare her afternoon Journal Club session. There were still ten or so PowerPoint slides she needed to complete. She slipped into her comfortable armchair and opened the laptop.

On the keyboard, Charlotte found a small piece of paper. It read “SORRY” in big letters. What??? Why??? Only then did she notice that the USB stick, which had been plugged into the laptop, was gone.

Charlotte stared at the piece of paper again. It was clearly Marcus' handwriting.
